In Africa, patterned textiles and handmade wooden artifacts, beads and masks were among the favourites.

Handwoven rugs were the top choice in Malawi, fabric the most popular for Zimbabwe and Cameroon, handmade beads for Ghana and Kenya, and ritual masks for Liberia and Mozambique. In Morocco, argan oil was the top souvenir, while in Ethiopia it was coffee.

Asia

The range of souvenirs was diverse across Asia and unique to the country’s culture or cuisine. In Japan, travellers love to try their hand at Origami; in China, a calligraphy set is the popular choice; and in Russia, the cute Matryoshka dolls were the top pick.

Clothing was also popular, with a scarf being the top souvenir from Vietnam, cashmere from Mongolia and Harem pants from Thailand.

Oceania

Seashells, shell ornaments and jewellery were among the top souvenirs in the South Pacific. In Australia, it came as no surprise to see the boomerang come out on top, used by Aboriginal Australians for hunting. In New Zealand, where Lord of The Rings was filmed, fans opt for The One Ring as their take-home souvenir.

Across Europe, chocolate was a winning choice in Switzerland, Belgium and Ireland. It also came as no surprise to see people love to purchase a beret from France, beer from Germany, clogs from the Netherlands, The Evil Eye from Turkey and Venetian Masks from Italy.

Lego was the top souvenir in Denmark, where it originated, and umbrellas were the top pick in England, likely due to the unpredictable weather.

The Americas

Traditional cuisine souvenirs are in high demand in North America. Sweets were the most purchased souvenir in the United States. In Canada, it was maple syrup; in Barbados, it was rum; and in Jamaica, it was Blue Mountain Coffee – a luxurious blend exclusively available in this country.

Alongside more rum and coffee, in South America, the hammock was the most popular souvenir from Brazil and a poncho was favoured in Bolivia.
